Air-entrained concrete

A low-density type of concrete throughout which small air bubbles are dispersed in order to increase its frost resistance: used for making roads.

Asphaltic concrete

Asphalt concrete (commonly called asphalt, blacktop, or pavement in North America, and tarmac, bitumen macadam, or rolled asphalt in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland) is a composite material commonly used to surface roads, parking lots, airports, and the core of embankment dams. Asphalt mixtures have been used in pavement construction since the beginning of the twentieth century. It consists of mineral aggregate bound together with asphalt, laid in layers, and compacted. The process was refined and enhanced by Belgian-American inventor Edward De Smedt.
Example: Asphalt Concrete is a composite material commonly used in construction of roads, highways, airports, parking lots, and many other types of pavement.

Axis

It is a straight line that joins two points in which spaces and shapes can be organized in a regular way. In addition, this induces the appearance of different perspectives along the route, said line or axis can become imaginary or invisible.

Concrete block

A concrete block is primarily used as a building material in the construction of walls. It is sometimes called a concrete masonry unit (CMU). A concrete block is one of several precast concrete products used in construction. The term precast refers to the fact that the blocks are formed and hardened before they are brought to the job site. Most concrete blocks have one or more hollow cavities, and their sides may be cast smooth or with a design.

Dovetail insert

A dovetail is a joint in woodworking where two sides are fitted together with interlocking pieces. You can also use the word dovetail to show how other things fit well together — like how your picnic plans nicely dovetail with the sunny forecast.

Gravity loads are body loads available only in Structure. These loads simulate the force of gravity as it affects your model. When you define a gravity load, you specify the gravitational components of the load in each coordinate direction.

Horizontal mortar joints
Noun
Bed joints are the horizontal mortar joints, or the bed of mortar that the next brick sits on. Full mortar bedding joints cover the entire top of the masonry unit and are the most common bedding type. Face shell mortar bedding has a narrow bed of mortar at the faces of the masonry unit and should only be used in interior non-load-bearing construction.
Example: The struck mortar joint is employed for horizontal joints.

Insulating concrete

Insulating concrete form or insulated concrete form (ICF) is a system of formwork for reinforced concrete usually made with a rigid thermal insulation that stays in place as a permanent interior and exterior substrate for walls, floors, and roofs. The forms are interlocking modular units that are dry-stacked (without mortar) and filled with concrete. The units lock together somewhat like Lego bricks and create a form for the structural walls or floors of a building. ICF construction has become commonplace for both low rise commercial and high performance residential construction as more stringent energy efficiency and natural disaster resistant building codes are adopted.

Ladder-type systems

Stone anchoring system for cavity or insulated walls. The backup is reinforced with a ladder type reinforcement with projecting boxes and a factory-welded restraint bar.

Laterally it is understood to refer to the side, edge, band, margin, edge, flank, bank or side, of an element, thing or a particular place. On both sides, alluding to a site or place in particular or that is or is located.

Masonry ties
Noun
Wall ties, sometimes called ‘brick ties’, are used in buildings with cavity walls. They are used to join the two leaves of a cavity wall together, allowing the two parts to act as a homogeneous unit. Hidden from view after construction, wall ties play a vital role in ensuring the stability of a building.
Example: To prevent the brick veneer from falling off the building, we use masonry ties.

Metal channel
Noun
A metal channel is a roll formed metal strip that has been shaped into a tube or a U, J, or C shape for industrial and manufacturing use. Metal channels are produced by high speed roll forming that converts metal into a linear roll formed channel shapes. Metal channels are used for a variety of applications.

Metal decking
Noun
Metal decking is corrugated metal sheeting that’s used as a structural roof deck or composite floor deck. It will be supported by steel beams or joists. The purpose of metal deck is to support the insulating membrane of a roof or to support and bond with the concrete to create a composite metal floor deck.
Metal decking has a high strength-to-weight ratio which decreases erection and material handling cost. It’s an ideal product for multi-story buildings. It’s the perfect platform for a roof or a concrete floor.

Structural metal stud framing refers to the construction of walls and planes using cold-formed steel components. There are two main components of metal stud framing, a stud and a track. Heavier gauge metal studs are used in load bearing walls and structural applications such as exterior walls.

Metal grating

Metal grating is a metal product produced by perforating metal sheets or joining bars of metal to form a grid. A metal roof is a roofing system made from metal pieces or tiles characterized by its high resistance, impermeability and longevity. It is a component of the building envelope. Zinc, copper and steel alloys are commonly used.

Metal walls studs, which are typically composed of steel, are usually intended for use in basement walls. They can also help design DIY partition walls or other parts of simple metal structures. Metal framing studs are used to support a non-load-bearing wall.

Metal tube (tubing) is made of metallic elements or alloys and is designed for specific industrial applications. Compared to other types of tubing, metal tube is stronger and most robust, making it better suited for structural applications and high-pressure fluid flow.

Elements that allow circulation between the different spaces, allowing us to get from one place to another in the shortest possible time and with the least possible complications.

Porous concrete

Pervious concrete is a special type of concrete with a high porosity, made from a mixture of cement, water, coarse aggregate and a minimal amount of fine aggregate (sand).

Precast concrete

The Latin prefix ‘pre’ means ‘before.’ Precast concrete was cast (made) BEFORE arriving at the construction site. Precast is often used where there are many similar shapes and sizes (repetition). It also allows for more quality control and a better finish.

Prestressed concrete is a form of concrete used in construction. It is substantially "prestressed" (compressed) during production, in a manner that strengthens it against tensile forces which will exist when in service.

A steel column is a vertical structure member used in construction to provide essential support. They may carry loads in compression, or they may transfer loads from things like beams, ceilings, floor slabs or roof slabs to floors or foundations. Steel columns may also carry bending moments near cross-section axes.

Steel frame is a building technique with a "skeleton frame" of vertical steel columns and horizontal I-beams, constructed in a rectangular grid to support the floors, roof and walls of a building which are all attached to the frame. The development of this technique made the construction of the skyscraper possible.

Steel joists are open web lightweight steel trusses consisting of parallel chords and a triangulated web system, proportioned to span between bearing points. There are five main components: a top chord, bottom chord, end web, bearing seat, and interior web members.

Structural steel means a steel member, or a member made of a substitute material (such as, but not limited to, fiberglass, aluminum or composite members). Steel Plate, or structural steel is simply steel sheet material that can be customarily cut and welded to develop a more elaborate product. It is made by compressing multiple steel layers together into one; forming a plate of steel.

Steel rods, called rebars, placed in the lower portion of a concrete slab prevent that slab from cracking when subjected to that tensile bending force.

Steel sections are the bread and butter of steel fabrication. Designers, architects and engineers choose different sections for their aesthetics and structural qualities – their choices determined by size, weight profile. Steel is extremely versatile and can be mounded to many different shapes.
Example: Angled structural steel sections can either either be equal or unequal. Both are right angled, however, unequal sections have different sized axis’ making them L-shaped.

Example: The function of a recessed support is to prevent displacement on the plane and rotation.

Unreinforced concrete

Concrete without reinforcement or reinforced only for shrinkage or temperature changes.
Example: The buttresses were made of masonry and the vaults of unreinforced concrete, covered with various layers of masonry, dry stone, earth, etc.

Urban legibility
Noun
Characteristic of a space or territory that alludes to the ease of its reading, without visual obstruction. The foregoing helps to identify their environment, its inhabitants and to humanize their urban environment (respect their identity).
Example: The similar shape that the Infonavit houses have, leads to urban legibility, demonstrating an ease in knowing what environment it is about.

Wedge anchor
Noun
A wedge anchor is a type of specialty fastener used to attach objects to concrete or masonry structures. They may be used to secure a piece of artwork to a brick wall, hang duct work or plumbing pipes from a ceiling, or bolt an item into the floor. A wedge anchors may also be known as anchor bolts or expansion bolts in some areas.
Example: Wedge anchors are used to reinforce concrete in older buildings. Old buildings, which are in poor condition, can be restructured using these anchors.
